Baby food. Yum! =)

Last Saturday we started Spencer on rice cereal. He seemed to enjoy it. Mom also loves rice cereal. She's advancing faster than Spencer. She has already had the squash and sweet potatos. The sweet potatos rock and the squash is ok. We'll probably spend next week with the oatmeal and barley cereals with Spencer and then advance him to the veggies. Mom has not yet tried these cereals, but is looking forward to it =).

This is for you Jenn

Wow. This is the first time I've been tagged. My sister in law tagged me. I was so touched that she thought of me =), so I decided to respond.=)

1. What is your favorite fictional character from a book or movie?
Since I like to read non fiction and probably read that the most, I can't really think of any favorite fictional characters so my favorite non-fictional character would probably be Laura Ingalls Wilder.

2. What are your 3 best physical assets?
Hmm... I guess my height, my brown eyes, my fingernails.

3. Name 3 attributes you would be proud to pass on to your children.
- Love of nature
- Love of hard physical work
- Love of education

4. Name 3 attributes that you hope not to pass on to your children.
- Lack of organization
- Impatience
- Stressing out so easily

5. If you had to give up one of the following things FOREVER, which would you choose? 1. All makeup. 2. Flat iron/curling iron. 3. Razors (laser hair removal isn't an option).
I would choose # 1, but since I over plucked my eyebrows I need to feel them in with makeup. I'm way to hairy to choose # 3, so it would have to be #2. It didn't say hair dryer so I could at least curl my hair under with a hair dryer and a round brush=)

6. What do you think is your best quality?
My concern for other people.

7. What is your worst quality?
anger

8. What would be a perfect day for you?
To have a clean, organized house and nicely manicured yard, so that I could just spend the whole day with my family and not worry that the house is not clean and the yard is not done.

9. Where is your favorite place you have ever visited?
Bolivia

10. Name something you are really good at?
-saving money

11. What are you most shallow about?
My humility. I'm probably the most humble person I know=)

12. What is something you're a little bit conceited about.
-How smart my husband is.

13. Name 3 things you are embarrassed to admit.
Why do I have to name them if I'm embarrassed about them?!
- The cat litter isn't cleaned as often as it should be.
- The upstairs area of my house is a disaster.
- My spanish isn't as good as I would like it to be.

Ok, I tag: Todd and whoever else would like to be tagged.

My voice was heard and yours can be too

Yesterday I was at the grocery store again and I saw the same magazine I mentioned in the last post (the picture of Ellen and Portia in wedding attire), displayed right where children could see it. I noticed there was a different store manager so I again expressed my concern. She was very kind about it and told me she felt the same. She then proceeded to turn the magazines around so that the picture would be more difficult for children to see. She also told me that any time I saw something offensive on a magazine I could turn it around so that the back would be facing out. I was also supprised that she said I was the only one she heard mention it. I know there must be other people that shop at that store that feel the same way I do. I know to some, the picture of Ellen and Portia in wedding attire on the front of a magazine might not seem like a big deal but it is. Think about the message it is sending to our children. It sends a message that marriage is not only between a man and a woman. Is that the message we want our children to hear? It's not one I want my children to hear. I know we can't protect them from everything, but we can do our part to protect our children from the things that our within our power to protect them from. Besides, I think the grocery store should be a safe place to take my children. Let's not become complacent. Let's stand up for our morals and beliefs. I'm not trying to sound preachy, but I believe that marriage is between a man and a women and feel strongly about this issure.

Evil prevails when good people do nothing

I once heard someone say, "Evil prevails when good people do nothing". That is why I chose to do something today when I saw an offensive picture on a magazine.

I was at a local grocery store that I go to often with my son, when right by the check out line was a full page, front cover picture on People magazine of Ellen and her girlfriend in wedding attire. Like many of you, that is not something I want my children to see when we go to the grocery store. I knew I had to do something, so I kindly let the store manager know how I felt, and asked if she could remove the magazine from the racks. She said she would talk to her district manager.

As a step further, I will also be calling People magazine and emailing the editors.

I ask all of you who feel the same as I do about this matter to join with me and let your voices be heard. Below are some phone numbers and an email address where you can contact People magazine. I also encourage you to talk to the managers of stores where you see this edition being displayed. If any of you suscribe to People and have recieved this edition I encourage you to send it back and ask for a return of your money.

I understand not all of you may feel the same as I do on this issue and I respect that. However, those of you who do feel the same please join me in this cause.

Finally! =)

Three years ago I planted a blackberry bush that was about a foot tall. It grew and grew and grew. Each year I hoped for blackberries. Each year I was disappointed as I didn't even get a bloom. Finally, this year I told myself that if I don't get backberries this year, I will take the plant out. You can guess how happy I was when in June or July I looked out the window and saw blossoms and finally the blossoms turned into blackberries. I guess the plant can stay.
